Admission

The Institute is aimed to become a fountain–head in providing technical excellence in academics through formal and non-formal technical education, entrepreneurship & research to meet the changing global needs of the society by transforming itself into Technical Vocational University. Accordingly, the institute offers flexible modular and multi-entry & multi-exit programs, namely Certificate, Diploma and Degree Courses. The details of admission notification with intake capacity, reservation of seats etc. in any of the programme viz. Certificate, Diploma, Degree Courses, is published in the newspapers as well as Institute’s website (www.gkciet.ac.in) usually in the month of March/ April every year in the form of ‘Information Brochure’.

Details about Certificate Course Admission:

The Ghani Khan Choudhury Institute of Engineering & Technology (GKCIET), Malda (WB) offers admission to its Certificate Courses of 2 years duration in the departments of (i) Civil Engineering, (ii) Computer Science & Engineering, (iii) Electrical Engineering, (iv) Food Technology, (v) Mechanical Engineering, (vi) Chemical Technology, and (vii) Sericulture & Textile Technology through all India GKCIET Entrance Test (GET - I). Entry Qualification/ Eligibility

The minimum qualification for admission to the Certificate programme is Matric pass (English, Mathematics and Science is Compulsory) from State Secondary Education Board/CBSE/ICSE/National Open School or an equivalent examination conducted by an Institution or school recognized by and affiliated to CBSE, New Delhi.

Details about Diploma Course Admission:

The Institute offers admission to its Diploma Courses of 2 years duration in the departments of (i) Civil Engineering, (ii) Computer Science & Engineering, (iii) Electrical Engineering, (iv) Food Technology, and (v) Mechanical Engineering. 50% of the available seats are filled by the applicants through the Direct Entry mode. In case of Direct Entry mode, the Institute conducts all India GKCIET Entrance Test (GET - II). The details of admission process is available in the ‘admission / information brochure’ to be published at the time of admission. Other 50 % of the available seats are filled by the Vertical Mobility mode. In such case, the admission process shall be based on a test to be conducted by the Institute consisting of two papers. Paper-I of 100marks includes common courses (physics, Chemistry, Mathematics and Communication Skills) and Paper-II of 100 marks on respective trade. Both Paper –I and Paper-II shall have equal weightage.

Entry Qualification/ Eligibility

Direct Entry mode: The minimum qualification for admission to the Diploma programme is 10+2 pass with Physics, Chemistry & Mathematics from a recognized Board/ University or a Certificate pass from GKCIET in respective trade. Minimum Marks in the qualifying examination is 50% (45% in case of Candidates belonging to reserved categories).

Vertical Mobility mode: Applicable for the pass out students of Certificate Courses offered at Ghani Khan Choudhury Institute of Engineering & Technology, Malda. The minimum marks in the Certificate examination is 50% (45% for SC/ST).

Details about Degree Course Admission

The Institute offers admission to its Degree programs of 2 years duration for the GKCIET Diploma holders and additional 1 year as Bridge Course for the other Diploma holders in the departments of (i) Electrical Engineering, (ii) Food Technology, and (iii) Mechanical Engineering. 50% of the available seats are filled by the applicants through the Direct Entry mode. In case of Direct Entry mode, the Institute conducts all India GKCIET Entrance Test (GET-III). The details of admission process is also available in the ‘admission/information brochure’ to be published at the time of admission. Other 50 % of the available seats are filled by the Vertical Mobility mode. In such case, the admission process shall be based on a test to be conducted by the Institute.

Direct Entry mode: All candidates who have passed Diploma Course any institute/polytechnic affiliated with any State Board of Technical Education and approved by All India Council of Technical Education (AICTE) securing 50% marks or equivalent grade (45% or equivalent grade in case of candidates belonging to reserved categories) are eligible to apply for the B. Tech program.

Vertical Mobility mode: All candidates who have passed the Diploma Course offered by Ghani Khan Choudhury Institute of Engineering & Technology securing minimum of 50 % marks or equivalent if grade is provided (45% marks or Equivalent Grade in case of candidate belonging to reserved categories) are eligible to apply for the B. Tech program.

Admission for Non-Formal Courses

Details about Non-Formal Admission

The non-formal section offers a basic module to enable Semi-Skilled manpower generation from Unskilled through hands-on-training. Subsequently, it enables Skilled manpower generation from the Semi-Skilled by skills up-gradation, multi-tasking through vertical mobility in a flexible manner. It also helps acquiring the Trade Proficiency of the candidates while on job in industry/institution. The Supervisory License may also be obtained in the higher module with gaining of certain minimum experiences in the field.

The Institute offers direct admission to all the modules and the admission is made on the basis of FIRST COME FIRST SERVE. In case of the base module, the minimum qualification for admission is Madhyamik (10th Std.) pass from a State Secondary Education Board/CBSE/ICSE/National Open School or equivalent.
