About Central Library

The GKCIET Library is one of the important central facilities of the Institute involved in the study, teaching-learning, research and development of the students and faculties. The library started its journey from 2010 with a few book racks and is growing very rapidly with the variety of books, journals, and multi-media CD ROMs. With the aim of becoming a center of excellence the library tries to provide services like reading room, lending, etc. The library is an open access in nature which gives its user the facility to directly go to the rack and choose his/ her own books. The reading room has a seating capacity of 56 users at a time and on an average 40- 50 students attend use the library per day. It remains open from 09.45am to 06:15 pm on weekdays. Keeping in mind the equal opportunity for all, the library is planning to build an e-resources consortia covering the colleges affiliated to AICTE and to increase titles and volumes to a great extent to meet the future demand.

NPTEL The National Programme on Technology Enhanced Learning (NPTEL), a project funded by the Ministry of Human Resource Development (MHRD) was first conceived in 1999 to pave the way for introducing multimedia and web technology to enhance learning of basic science and engineering concepts. Significant infrastructure has been set up earlier for production of video-based teaching material by the Indian Institutes of Technology (IIT) and Technical Teacher Training Institutes (TTTI). In the first phase of the NPTEL project (June 2003-June 2007), seven IITs and the Indian Institute of Science (IISc) have worked together to develop web and video based material for basic undergraduate science and engineering courses in order to enhance the reach and quality of technical education in the country. NDL Ministry of Human Resource Development under its National Mission on Education through Information and Communication Technology has initiated the National Digital Library of India (NDL India) pilot project to develop a framework of virtual repository of learning resources with a single-window search facility. Filtered and federated searching is employed to facilitate focused searching so that learners can find out the right resource with least effort and in minimum time. NDL India is designed to hold content of any language and provides interface support for leading Indian languages (currently Hindi and Bengali). It is being arranged to provide support for all academic levels including researchers and life-long learners, all disciplines, all popular form of access devices and differently-abled learners. It is being developed to help students to prepare for entrance and competitive examination, to enable people to learn and prepare from best practices from all over the world and to facilitate researchers to perform inter-linked exploration from multiple sources. The pilot project is devising a framework that is being scaled up with respect to content volume and diversity to serve all levels and disciplines of learners. It is being developed at IIT Kharagpur. https://ndl.iitkgp.ac.in/

SWAYAM SWAYAM is a programme initiated by Government of India and designed to achieve the three cardinal principles of Education Policy viz., access, equity and quality. The objective of this effort is to take the best teaching learning resources to all, including the most disadvantaged. SWAYAM seeks to bridge the digital divide for students who have hitherto remained untouched by the digital revolution and have not been able to join the mainstream of the knowledge economy. https://swayam.gov.in/
